Applications

Energy

Today everything depends on the continuous availability of electricity, and the transmission grid forms the backbone of the electricity system. Electricity transmission and distribution are at the heart of every country's development.

Adelsystem DC-UPSs with integrated Modbus communication protocols are at the heart of Smart Grid project development, particularly when it comes to data communication with geographically distributed LV and MV substations.

RTU

Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are installed along the power grid and integrated into SCADA systems to communicate in real time with secondary substations distributed throughout the territory.

DC-UPSs with Modbus RTU RS485 protocol integrate with RTU systems offering the ability to monitor battery and power status remotely as well.

The main tasks of RTU technology are:

  • Facilitate efficient and reliable communication between secondary substation and control center;
  • Collect and process information from the secondary substation and communicate the information to SCADA;
  • Enable monitoring and control of the secondary substation.

RTUs are expanding their functionality from pure collection of switch status and measured values to processing such data and creating additional benefits by providing profile information on distribution network utilization.

To maintain active communication with the substation and protection in the substation during outages, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is required to keep devices active for a period of several hours.
All active devices operate on direct current typically 24V, but other voltages are also possible.

ADELSystem DC-UPSs ensure sufficient and reliable power supply for RTUs and other devices installed in secondary substations.

They also have a MODBus RTU RS485 protocol, and the complete Backup system can be monitored from the control center.

Smart Grid

The development of "smart" grids enables more innovative and automated grid management. Smart grids are based on the installation in the territory of data loggers, smart sensors, RTUs and communication modules that require continuous power supply, guaranteed even in case of grid failure.
DC-UPSs with Ethernet protocol are installed worldwide in this type of project.

Power Plant Controller

To monitor the photovoltaic (PV) system and control its intelligent devices in real time from a central monitoring station, the PV system and its grid connection (LV/MV substation) must be connected to a PPC (Power Plant Controller).
Regulations require battery backup power support such as our DC-UPS with Modbus RTU RS485 communication protocol.

Wind power

DC-UPS mounts with battery packs are required inside the wind turbines to ensure proper operation of the electrical panels, internal emergency lights, overhead anti-collision warning lights, and especially for the emergency motor for wind turbine blade interruption. The power boost found in our DC-USPs allows them to handle significant power surges with very compact DC-UPSs.

Photovoltaic

In addition to the support of PPCs (Power Plant Controllers), Adelsystem has developed a CEI 0-21-compliant solution that provides a power supply system that, in the face of a power failure, allows the active functions of the SPI (Interface Protection System) and DDI (Interface Device) to continue for at least 5 seconds.
Adelsystem offers a solution consisting of our CBI6024A and the BAT12Wh or supercap BAT350J battery pack.
